Used to make fresh green chile or for drying, this medium hot, short-season chile was developed in New Mexico. The cultivar was developed by Dr Roy Harper in 1956 by crossing breeding a Numex No.9 type with a Californian Anaheim-type.. 'Sandia" produced 5-7 inch long, medium wide green pods with medium thick walls which are medium hot (~5,000 SHUs). Very popular with home gardeners. Heavy yielder and these are great for roasting on the grill, yum yum yum.
